Elvis Presley understood survival guilt.

 

It is reported by his closest friends that he was tormented by it his entire life.

 

He had concluded somewhere along the way that he was responsible for the death of his stillborn twin.

 

Elvis and Jessie Garon Presley were born only minutes apart on January 8, 1935. Jessie died before Elvis could even take his first breath.

 

Elvis believed that, while he was still developing inside of his mother, his body had absorbed more than his share of the available nutrients. He reasoned that Jessie suffered so that he could live.
